Introduction of Coins
As in most years of the Franklin type, it is the Denver Mint edition of the 1951 half dollar which is most often seen well struck. This extends to a greater percentage of FBL examples. An irony of this coin type is that the well struck pieces tend to have a greater number of contact marks, or simply reveal them more readily. 1951-D halves are quite rare in grades above MS-65. There appear to be no varieties for this issue, an oddity given the number of dies required for this fairly large mintage.Read More
