Introduction of Coins
This issue enjoyed a high mintage for a Denver-Mint half dollar, reflective of wartime economic conditions. Typical of Denver products of the period, most 1943-D halves are quite well struck. Gems are common through MS-67. The obverse die doubling often reported and often submitted for variety attribution is the result of master doubling on either a working hub or even the 1943 master die. A richer field for the collector is found in the two repunched mintmarks known for this issue.Read More
