Introduction of Coins
Had it occurred 20 years earlier, the low mintage of this issue would have resulted in a Mint State rarity. As it is, there were thousands of collectors saving new examples of each United States coin by 1946. Thus, the 1946-D half dollar is plentiful through MS-66. The three U. S. mints were in post-war economy mode, working with slashed budgets, so the dies were often run far too long. Well struck coins from fresh dies do exist, but collectors will have to be discriminating in their selection process. Only very minor varieties are known for the 1946-D half dollar, and their exists little interest in these.Read More
