Introduction of Coins
Denver mintage of half dollars rose only gradually over that of 1935, as the Midwest endured a slower recovery than did the nation as a whole. Still, this issue is readily available through the grade of MS-65, with enough MS-66 coins certified to satisfy the advanced collectors. A fair number of these have good, though not full, strikes. The minor doubling visible on the obverse of 1936-D half dollars is the product of master die doubling and thus affects the 1936 half dollars of all three mints. There is no premium attached. There are a few obverse dies that reveal additional doubling, but this, too, is minor and of no broad interest.Read More
