Introduction of Coins
The output of half dollars from the San Francisco Mint was nearly halved from the previous year, a reflection of the 1937-38 recession that delayed a full recovery from the Great Depression. While enough rolls of fresh coins were saved that the 1937-S half dollar will always be plentiful in Mint State, most examples are noticeably weakly struck. Fully formed gems thus carry a premium. No varieties have been reported for this issue.Read More
