Introduction of Coins
Though its production was modest in comparison the half dollar coinage of the preceding several decades, the 1841 Philadelphia Mint half has survived in fair numbers. Mint State examples, however, are scarce. This issue seems to be particularly subject to weak strikes, and collectors are urged to seek a sharper example. Three obverse dies were paired with a like number of reverses for a total of five known die marriages. Two collars were employed, these having reed counts of 146 and 148, respectively.Read More
