Introduction of Coins
The relatively modest of this issue compared with the Philadelphia Mint's output during 1842-44 is unexplained, but it has left the 1845(P) half dollar rare in Mint State. Even XF-AU are quite scarce and highly sought by date collectors. Bugert's die study book identified six die marriages resulting from the use of four obverse dies and a like number of reverses. Only two collars appear to have been used, one with 145 reeds and the other 146. No varieties have surfaced for this issue.Read More
