Introduction of Coins
The Tall Date punch was used on cents, as well as half dollars, and in both instances it is the scarcer of the two sizes. The premium is greater for half dollars, however. The Bugert die study book lists six obverse dies of this style. These were combined with seven reverses for a total of eight known die marriages. Though scarcer in overall numbers, the certified population of Tall Date coins in Mint State is not markedly different than for the Medium Date. This may represent a higher rate of submission for the former. Gems are rare for either variety.Read More
