Introduction of Coins
Philadelphia's production of half dollars rose modestly from the low of 1855, and this issue is moderately scarce in grades XF and higher. Mint State survivors are quite elusive for a P-Mint half of the period, and gems are very rare. A total of 10 die marriages have been identified. These are comprised of 10 each obverse and reverse dies. At least two collars were employed, since reed counts of either 145 or 146 have been observed. There are only minor varieties, with two dies showing repunching of numeral 1.Read More
