Introduction of Coins
The Philadelphia Mint half dollar of 1867 is moderately scarce in lower circulated grades, and it becomes much more elusive in grades XF and higher. Mint State survivors are genuinely rare, but they tend to be well struck from unworn dies. Gems are extremely rare. Eight obverse dies and seven reverses have been identified, and these were used in various combinations for a total of 10 die marriages known to Wiley and Bugert. Others may yet surface. Collars were used having either 150, 152 or 153 reeds. Varieties for this issue are sparse, with a very minor repunched date known (WB-102).Read More
