Modest proof sales continued throughout this decade, and the number sold is fairly reflective of the hobby's overall size. Of course, some proof coins were acquired as souvenirs by persons touring the Philadelphia Mint, but these likely accounted for no more than a few dozen pieces each year. Two die pairs are known for 1868 proof half dollars.
