Introduction of Coins
Sales of proof coins rebounded somewhat in 1912, and there's nothing obvious to explain the greater interest from collectors. It may be that some additional buyers sought to obtain the Liberty Head Nickel during its final year of production, but these could be purchased as a pair with the cent in what the Mint called minor proof sets. Despite a higher mintage than for 1911, the 1912 proof half dollar is comparable in both overall and condition rarity. Cameo proofs are even a bit more scarce than for the previous year.Read More
