Introduction of Coins
This is the first of three consecutive dates which close out the Barber Half Dollar series with low mintages for both the proofs and currency strikes of the Philadelphia Mint. The rarity of MS 1913(P) halves is more a matter of perception than reality, and at one time the proofs were more highly sought and thus were priced higher. Since the 1980s the MS coins have outpaced the proofs, yet both are worth more than preceding dates. The 1913 proof half dollar is of comparable rarity to earlier issues in overall numbers, but gems are fairly scarce. Certified Cameo proofs are genuinely rare for this date.Read More
