Introduction of Coins

Without the novelty of 1909's two cent types, sales of proofs continued their long decline in 1910. The proof half dollar of this year is scarcer than most previous issues, with gems being particularly elusive. As in 1909, however, the percentage of Cameo proofs is higher than for 1902-08, a welcome benefit for collectors. The Philadelphia Mint produced a fairly low total of currency half dollars this year, and at one time this put extra price pressure on the proofs. Since the 1980s, however, collectors have been less inclined to complete their sets with a blend of MS and PF coins. Both issues are now respected as separate, and this has the MS issue bringing equal or higher prices than the PF half.Read More
