Introduction of Coins

First struck in 1986, Gold Eagles are one of the world's most popular ways to buy gold. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. In 1992, the mint changed the date format on gold eagles from Roman to Arabic numerals. While this helped people read the date easier, it didn't help the sales for this particular issue with only 40,976 sold, a 23% drop from the prior year. Quality was once again decent with some 25% earning the grade of PF70UC. (6/2016)Read More
