Introduction of Coins
First struck in 1986, Gold Eagles are one of the world's most popular ways to buy gold. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. While $50 proof gold eagles were struck in 1986, no other sizes of proof gold eagles were struck that year, After good sales the first year, the mint added a proof version of the 1/2oz $25 coin. Some 143,398 $25 proof coins were struck this year, nearly double the next highest mintage. Quality was poor this year, with only about 13% receiving the grade of PF70UC. (6/2016)Read More
