Introduction of Coins
First struck in 1986, Gold Eagles are one of the world's most popular ways to buy gold. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. In 2009, the mint did not strike any proof gold eagles due to a shortage of physical gold and the requirement under the law to continue striking bullion as long as it was desired. In 2010, the proof eagles returned, and the mintage nearly doubled the 2008 sales to some 44,507 coins. Quality really increased this year however, with nearly 85% s of the coins submitted earning the grade of PF70UC. (6/2016)Read More
