Introduction of Coins
A previously unused die prepared for 1809 dime coinage was overpunched with numerals 11 for use this year, and it was paired with the leftover reverse of 1809. These constitute the single die marriage known for this date. The underlying 0 remains quite evident, though details of the 9 are obscure. This is another scarce issue across all grades, with Mint State pieces being genuinely rare. The reverse die progressively failed, and many survivors reveal numerous die cracks and clash marks, with the die ultimately starting to crumble.Read More
