Introduction of Coins
There is no reported mintage of dimes during 1824, and numismatists have concluded that the coins bearing this date comprised the 100,000 pieces delivered August 22, 1825. Are all overdated 4/2 with a single obverse that was paired with two reverses. JR-1 is common across all but the higher grades, while JR-2 is very scarce. These are easily distinguished, as JR-1 has a flat top to numeral 1 in the value, as on earlier dimes, while JR-2 has the new style curved top. Mint State examples of this date are rare, with gems being prohibitively so.Read More
