Introduction of Coins
As was commonplace during the early 1830s, the mintage figure for 1832 includes coins dated 1831, and at least two varieties of 1832-dated dimes were struck after that year. The actual availability of 1832 dimes in the marketplace is a better guide to the number coined with that date. Seven die marriages are known from various combinations of three obverses and five reverses. None are rare, with JR-3, -4, -6 and -7 being only slightly scarce. None of these varieties is particularly interesting, though the extended use of the dies resulted in a number of late-die-state coins having cracks. Mint State examples are reasonably available, but gems are quite rare.Read More
