Introduction of Coins
The 1835 dime is a common coin, and its production continued into 1836 and, possibly, 1837. Mint State examples are plentiful, with a fairly generous supply of gems for the more common varieties. Though not distinguished in popular guide books, the numeral 8 comes in two obviously different styles. The "Fancy" or "Script" 8 is asymmetrical, while the "Block" 8 consists of two stacked loops of similar shape. Two obverse dies of each are known, and these were paired with eight reverses for a total of nine die marriages. Five of these varieties are common, while.
