Introduction of Coins

Since economic recovery came slower in the Midwest than in the rest of the nation, Denver's coinage production did not keep pace with that of Philadlephia. Despite a modest mintage by later standards, the 1934-D cent is common in all circulated grades, and gem Mint State examples exist in sufficient numbers to satisfy advanced collectors. The challenge with 1934-D cents is in finding well struck specimens from fresh dies. The Denver Mint returned to its old practice of overusing dies and permitting them to display severe erosion lines and loss of detail. The periods in V.D.B. were no longer visible on cents dated 1934-68, as these had worn off of the obverse master hub. A fresh hub for 1969's coinage restored the periods, along with sharpening all other features.Read More
