Introduction of Coins
Unlike the San Francisco Mint cents of a decade earlier, the 1936-S issue was well made and can be found in fully red gem condition from sharp dies. The example illustrated suffers only from the characteristic weakness at E PLUR and O(NE). This problem was not solved until 1984, when the Mint began hollowing out Lincoln's shoulder to balance metal flow, a fix that has been taken to ludicrous extreme in recent decades.Read More
