Introduction of Coins
The certified population of high grade 1953-S cents seems adequate to meet the demand from advanced collectors of this series. Those that didn't make the cut often failed to do so because of streaking and staining. These problems plagued many cents from the late 1940s and the '50s, probably as a consequence of the planchet cleaning process employed prior to striking. Shallow details and frosty, diffused luster are common for this issue. More than two dozen repunched mintmark varieties have been recorded for this issue, and all but a few are extremely slight.Read More
