This high mintage date is readily available across all grades through MS 64. There exists the possibility that some portion of the mintage may have been melted as obsolete after 1873, but this has not affected its overall availability. A spectacular doubled-die obverse variety is found for the 1872(P) half dime. This affects the obverse legend and the lines of Liberty's shield.
