The coin collecting hobby experienced a growth spurt during the late 1870s and early 1880s. This perhaps accounts for the large numbers of proof cents coined during the '80s, but it seems to have been excessive even for that time. Decades later, several dealers had hoards of these dates from having bought up the unsold remainders each year. This date is readily available in gem condition, even with significant amounts of red color. Cameo pieces are fairly scarce, however, as the Mint wasn't making its proofs with great care.阅读更多
