Despite a rather high sales figure, proof dimes dated 1899 are not as available as several other dates from that decade. In addition, the Philadelphia Mint regressed a bit this year with respect to its die preparation. While Cameo pieces are not truly rare, they are more elusive than for those coined in 1898.
