This alleged rarity of this issue is more a matter of perception that is based on its low mintage and association with the rare 1913-S quarter dollar. In fact, it is only moderately scarce in circulated grades. Mint State pieces, though certainly not common, survive in sufficient number to meet the demand from advanced collectors.
