While 800 silver proof sets were prepared, sales fell short of this number, and only 677 were issued to collectors. The remaining pieces were released to general circulation early the following year. A single die pair produced the proof dimes of 1878, and this shows very minor repunching of numeral 1. The quality of 1878 proofs remained below that of the 1860s, and both gems and coins displaying significant contrast between fields and devices are elusive.阅读更多
