硬币介绍

Decades ago, when there was little in print about the striking quality of coins, the 1926 D nickel was already being cited as an issue often found poorly struck. This is certainly true, though it is no more problematic than many of the mintmarked nickels of the 1920s. Perhaps what brought this particular entry to the forefront is the fact that a disproportionate number survive in Mint State. There were several rolls of this and other D-Mint nickels coming onto the market in the 1930s, due to the fact that a recovering economy finally emptied vaults of coins not needed immediately when they were minted. The Midwestern region served by the Denver Mint entered recession before the rest of the nation, and certain coins of the late 1920s sat idle for several years awaiting better times. The 1926 D nickels were among these latecomers. Though relatively plentiful, precious few of these Mint State coins qualify as gems. Since it was the reverse die most often overused, many of this issue had little or no detail in the bison's head as made. This makes the grading of circulated pieces quite challenging, as it's possible to find lustrous, nearly unworn coins that have no definition to the bison's horn.阅读更多
