Despite its imminent termination of coining operations, the New Orleans Mint produced its record number of Barber Halves this year. Examples are common across all grades through MS-65, and a small number of superb gems have been certified. These may display less than full strikes, however, and some may even display the obverse die-sinking phenomenon known as "mumps." The only variety known is a misplaced date in which the top of an errant zero is seen within the denticles below numeral zero of the date. 1908 was a banner year for such oddities across all denominations from cent through half dollar, and the following year's coins would all have their dates applied to the master die to prevent recurrences.阅读更多
