First struck in 1986, Gold Eagles are one of the world's most popular ways to buy gold. The coins are available in 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 1oz sizes, with face values of $5, $10, $25, and $50, respectively. After a few years of decreases, the mintage of proof $25 gold eagles finally increased in 1999 to some 30,427 pieces. Quality was poor this year however, with only 23% earning the grade of PF70UC.
