硬币介绍

It's not surprising that San Francisco produced the greatest number of trade dollars for this year, as it was the primary launching point for ships traveling to Asia loaded with silver for international commerce. Production almost certainly would have topped a million pieces had the dies been ready before July. The ultimate destination for most of this bullion was India, which prized silver more than other parts of the world did. Even worn coins are rather scarce, certainly not rare. Mint State survivors are few, since nearly all of these coins did get exported and later melted. Surprisingly, however, gems are a bit more available than for the two other mints. How this occurred is unknown, as there were precious few collectors of trade dollars by date and mint until well into the 20th Century. Collectors of the 1870s sought proofs almost exclusively. Varieties are limited to relative positioning of the mintmark. Some 15 pairs of dies were sent to the San Francisco Mint for trade dollar coinage, and all appear to have the same size and style of mintmark.阅读更多
