Introduction of Coins
The 1846-O is a scarce and very underrated date. It is most often seen in low grades and it is unlikely that more than 20 or so are known in About Uncirculated. In Mint State, this is a very rare issue. We are personally aware of five or six and feel that the total number that exist is probably in the area of seven or eight coins. In Uncirculated, the 1846-O half eagle is much rarer than the 1846-D/D and it is a close rival to the more celebrated--and far more expensive--1846-C.
