Somewhat similar numbers of Mint State examples seem to survive of all Philadelphia Mint dimes from this period, so the 1909(P) dime's low mintage affected the survival of circulated coins to a much greater extent. While MS coins are not common, they are more available than the low mintage suggests. Only gems are truly rare. Except for very heavily worn coins, this issue is very elusive in all circulated grades. They are no varieties known, and this is due in large part to the U. S. Mint's policy from 1909 onward of no longer punching dates into individual working dies.Read More
