Introduction of Coins
The high mintages of 1917-20 and the recession of 1921-22 stalled further half dollar production until the latter months of 1923. The San Francisco Mint alone coined this denomination, and the two million pieces struck in 1923 were enough to supply the demand through 1926. Though plentiful in well worn condition, examples grading VF and higher are moderately scarce. AU and MS coins are quite elusive and typically reveal so-so strikes. Gems are rare, probably more so than the Census numbers indicate.Read More
