Introduction of Coins

The typical 1950-D cent is well made, with a fairly sharp strike from fresh or only moderately worn dies. Luster and color are good overall, but contact marks and a slight tendency to tone irregularly limits the number of truly high-grade pieces.  Several repunched mintmark varieties are known, but none of these are particularly dramatic. Cud die breaks are common for this issue, and the general trend throughout the 1950s was for die breaks of all kinds to become more frequent than in earlier years. High mintages, overuse of the dies and inadequate hardening of the dies all played a role.Read More
